Earl of Lindsay · Baron of Kilconquhar

The Baronage of Scotland Association offers its sincere condolences to the family of James, 16th Earl of Lindsay and Baron of Kilconquhar, who died in London on 9 October 2026, aged 70.

Born on 19 November 1955, he was a Scottish landowner and was appointed a farming minister in John Major’s government. He sat in the House of Lords as a Conservative hereditary peer until the House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) Act 2026 ended his membership in April 2026.

He is survived by Diana, his wife, and by their three daughters and two sons. His elder son, William, succeeds as 17th Earl of Lindsay.

His funeral will be held at Kilconquhar Parish Church on 10 November 2026, and he will be buried in the crypt there, alongside his ancestors.

May he rest in peace.
